Title:   Manager, Animal Assisted Therapy Programs  

Department/Division: Community Initiatives 

Supervisor’s Title:  Senior Director, Community Initiatives  

Job Summary:

The Manager of Animal Assisted Therapy Programs manages all aspects of the ASPCA/Delta Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) program including planning and budget oversight.  As well as training and screening of Pet Partners and evaluation of placement sites.  This position is also responsible for scheduling trainings and providing instruction for current and new Pet Partner teams at both the 92nd Street headquarters and other locations around NYC.  This position will take an active role in ASPCA Partnership as needed. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Screen and council Pet Partner volunteers
  • Assess Pet Partner volunteers’ skill and interest
  • Oversee the placement of Pet Partner volunteers in NYC
  • Schedule training classes, evaluations and workshops for Pet Partner volunteers
  • Recruit and assess healthcare and educational facilities in NYC for placements
  • Supervise volunteers during visits as needed
  • Coordinate AAT evaluations, workshops and events
  • Maintain ongoing communication with regional Pet Partners
  • Assist with the management of all budget tasks related to the AAT program including collecting and depositing workshop fees
  • Assist in the development of program goals, objectives and tactics
  • Respond to requests for information from Pet Partners and the general public
  • Present educational programs about AAT
  • Assist the Delta Society evaluator during AAT evaluations
  • Promote training classes and Delta Pet Partner program to general public through media outlets and community outreach
  • Design and execute a training program for people and their pets who are interested in becoming Delta Pet Partners
  • Organize training classes and Pet Partner 1-day seminars both at 92nd St. and in other boroughs
  • Write reports and brochures
  • Support and participate in all other activities as identified by the Senior Director
  • Consult with Community Liaisons on AAT

Education:

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Graduate work in Psychology, Education or Social Work a plus
  • Delta Society Pet Partner certification or the equivalent
  • Certified professional dog trainer  (CPDT)
  • Delta Society licensed instructor a plus  

Experience:

  • Three to five years of AAT experience.

Training Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License a plus

Additional Information:

  • Frequent travel required.
  • Must occasionally lift and move up to 35 pounds.
  • Must be self-guided individual requiring minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a remote office.
  • Must be able to work weekends regularly (Work week is generally Tuesday – Saturday)
  • Must be able to travel throughout NYC
