We all know that good food, medical care and safe, clean housing are essential for the animals in our care. We also know that it’s important to keep our charges physically and mentally healthy and active. All of us are working with limited time and resources, making good quality enrichment a real challenge.
Shelter Manager Becky Burton will show you a variety of ways in which you can provide beneficial activity, brain exercise and FUN for dogs, cats and small caged pets on the cheap. Demos and hands on activity will get you started—you’ll find that “dollar store” can be one of your greatest resources. Save time by asking volunteers and youth groups to help you gather and prepare items using simple household goods that will not only delight your animals but will assist you in engaging the community.
In addition to managing St. Hubert’s Madison animal shelter, Becky has deployed several times to assist both the ASPCA ® and HSUS at emergency sheltering operations around the country. Those experiences, coupled with research, sharing with colleagues, and her own creativity provide the ability to achieve ongoing enrichment that anyone can duplicate at little or no expense .
